Samsung Galaxy S26 FE launching today

Although Samsung just held a huge Galaxy Unpacked event last month, it’s scheduled a surprise launch for today.

It’s not another Unpacked, so it won’t be the scale of the July London event, which saw the new Galaxy Z Fold 8 series and new smartwatches unveiled. Instead, Samsung is calling it ‘Galaxy Event August 2026’.

We don’t know a lot about the event, but Samsung has confirmed it will launch a new Galaxy S26 model and it will take place on 27 August. A live stream will start at 9pm KST (or 1pm UK time / 8am ET).

You’ll be able to watch it on the Samsung website, or on the brand’s official YouTube channel.

It’s fairly easy to conclude this will be for the Galaxy S26 FE, just slightly ahead of its usual September launch. We were expecting to see it debut around 4 September to match the Galaxy S25 FE. That would line up with IFA 2026 in Berlin where Samsung annually shows off new devices.

Samsung says the phone is “purposefully designed to bring the core Galaxy S26 experiences from camera to AI, along with the latest One UI, to those who look for what truly matters most to them”.

That’s all Samsung has officially said about the surprise August event, but did include a short video teaser.

In it, we see three cups of matcha with Galaxy AI star-shaped ice cubes. They’re laid out in a way which looks like Samsung’s iconic camera module, suggesting the Galaxy S26 FE will get a trio of rear cameras once again.

A hand takes the middle cup, revealing the words ‘Welcome to Galaxy S’, along with the event date.

While it’s exciting to get the new Galaxy S26 FE, you may want to curb your enthusiasm. Although we thought the S25 FE finally made the ‘Fan Edition’ series make sense, rumours and leaks point towards a mediocre upgrade this year.

If correct, the S26 FE will stick with the same 45W charging, 4900mAh battery, a small upgrade in the engine room to an Exynos 2500 and the same 6.7-inch AMOLED screen.

Even the cameras look to be the same in terms of megapixels, with 50-, 12- and 8Mp at the rear for main, ultrawide and telephoto, then 12Mp again at the front.

New colours such as Pistachio and Blueberry (shown above along with Graphite) are unlikely to be a big lure, especially when Samsung is rumoured to be giving the phone a price rise.

It’s all very 2026 and if the price rise is big enough – rumoured to start at €799 in Europe – it will no longer fit into the mid-range category by our definition.

We’ll have to wait and see what Samsung says officially, but rumours like this don’t tend to be wrong.
