iPhone 18 release date just got ‘confirmed’
The iPhone 18 series will almost certainly launch in September, but has its specific release date just been revealed?
Mark Gurman is one of the better-connected Apple reporters out there, and he just published a piece on Bloomberg that discusses (among other things) Apple’s typical launch cadence ahead of the launch of the iPhone 18.
According to the reporter, the iPhone 18 will almost certainly land on Tuesday 8 September, with Wednesday 9 September as a potential alternative.
It’s worth noting that Gurman has seemingly arrived at this date based on Apple’s historically consistent approach to launching its phones, adding that “it’s hard to see it landing anywhere else”. But if there’s any particular insider insight involved in his calculation, he doesn’t specify it.

It all checks out, however. As the report explains it, Apple’s iPhone launches are “usually held on the first Tuesday or Wednesday after Labor Day”, which is on 7 September this year. It then allows Apple to get its products into the market by mid-September.
This, in turn, gives the company time to get fully stocked up ahead of the lucrative holiday season.
It’s a carefully mapped-out launch plan that incorporates Apple’s various departments, including marketing, finance and operations, so it doesn’t tend to vary all that much.
As Gurman notes, when it comes to the launch of the follow-up to the iPhone 17, “It’s hard to see it landing anywhere else” but 8 September.
A not-so-solid iPhone 18 Pro rumour
One iPhone 18-related rumour that’s far less dependable is the one that’s doing the rounds about an iPhone 18 Pro unit being filmed going through a drop test process.
The footage seemingly appeared on the X account of trusted tipster Evan Blass – only for it to emerge that the leaker known as evleaks had switched to a different account, and that his old one had been taken over by an unknown person.

Said purloined account has since been suspended due to a violation of X rules. If you’re hearing reports of artfully bouncing silver iPhone 18 Pro handsets, then our advice would be to apply a whole ladle of salt – if not dismiss them entirely.
While a major supplier to Apple did suffer a data breach last week, this dubious leak isn’t likely to have emerged as a result.
However, we are much more confident about the iPhone 18 Pro colours, including a ‘clear winner’.
