Galaxy Z Fold 8 has an exciting new rival – but there’s a catch
The Vivo X Fold 6 has been confirmed for a global release, introducing another foldable contender ahead of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 launch, though we’re not celebrating just yet.
We’ve covered previous Vivo foldable phones like the Vivo X Fold 2, and have always rated them highly. However, we’ve always been frustrated at the company’s limited global reach, with a resolute focus on its home territory of China.
That could well be shifting. Android Authority has received a comment from Vivo on the prospects of a global launch for its new X Fold 6 foldable.
“There will be a global launch of vivo X Fold 6,” the company says, though it also introduces the caveat that “Detailed availability has yet to be officially confirmed.”
Last year’s Vivo X Fold 5 technically got a global launch, but it was limited to Asia, so we’re not holding our breath for a UK launch of the Vivo X Fold 6.
Earlier this year, the Vivo X300 Ultra landed in select European countries, but not the UK. The pithy statement of “We have paused our business in U.K. [sic] for the time being” remains in place on the company’s UK website.
And of course, with no Vivo phones ever sold in the US, the chances of it launching Stateside asre almost zero.
Another Samsung foldable rival
That’s a shame, because the Vivo X Fold 6 could be a smart alternative to what is likely to be a very expensive Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra – the name tipped for the follow-up to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7.
It runs on a Dimensity 9500 Super Edition, features a huge 7000mAh battery, and benefits from 80W wired charging and 40W wireless. It also features IP58/IP59 dust and water resistance.
There’s a competitive camera set-up here, involving a 200Mp main camera, a 50Mp ultra-wide, and a 50Mp 3x telephoto. Vivo also lets you add a lens extension onto the latter for an optical 8.3x zoom.
If you’re lucky enough to be in a territory that sells it, Vivo’s new foldable could be a worthy alternative to the usual big-hitters.
